Sunflowers
My miniture sunflower has its first flower. I love sumflowers. They are so beautiful and uplifting. I love how they always turn their face towards the sun.
Catching up – Part 1 – One Little Word
I can’t
believe how time has flown past. It seems unreal that it’s already the middle
of June and the last time I posted was the end of February. So much has
happened since February but I’ll just hit the highlights starting with the One
Little Word Class by Ali Edward that I signed up to do.
February’s
Prompt was simple. - choose one thing/action/thought to practice and keep
track of it daily on a card that slipped right into the pocket of my album. I
actually decided to focus on two items – keeping up with certain household chores and
being creative daily mainly to help me to complete the unfinished projects I
have laying around. I made a list of the house chores that I wanted to get into
a habit of doing and kept it on my kitchen counter. I work well with lists.
Checking off the items as I do them helps keep me motivated to keep going until
I have all of the boxes checked off. This also helps me keep my focus, which is
challenging as I have ADHD. I tend to start something, get bored and distracted
and go start something else. Then I get bored and distracted and go start
something else. Pretty soon I have a bunch of projects started but none
finished. To help me stay focused even more I used pretty colored crystals on the
daily card. I didn’t do too bad – 38% of the month I completed the house chores and
62% of the month I was creative every day. Big surprise that I found it easier
to be creative than do chores. Lol. I decided that I was going to keep doing
the Practice each month because I really feel that I will get a lot of benefits
from it.
March’s Prompt completely lost me. Our “homework” was to create a vision
board for our word and the things I want to invite into my life. I was like “What?!”
So I still have to get that completed. I have been finding pictures, quotes and
ideas and saving them to put on a board so I am working on completing this
prompt. It’s just taking me a little while. I did continue with the Practice
from February and added two additional habits I want to create. Capture Your
365 daily photo and trying a new recipe every week. I was disappointed in that
I didn’t do as well with the prompt in March as I did in February. House chores
I only got 29%, daily creativity 39%, CY365 photos 16% and the Weekly Recipe
0.03%. March was a busy month with rehearsals for the play “Guys and Dolls”. I’ll
tell more about that later.
April’s Prompt was all about defining my word my way via sticky note
questions & reflections. Ok.. So I didn’t get this one done either.
The first three weeks in April revolved around the play and I had little time
for anything else. I haven’t even began working on this prompt. As far as the
Practice Prompt, I know that I did some but didn’t keep track so I have no idea
how I did.
May was for me to look through the lens of my camera, or at photos I had
already taken, to see where my word was working in my life and to show through
photos, what my word meant to me at that point in time. Guess what? Yep you
guessed it! I didn’t get this prompt done either. Or even started. I didn’t
even keep track of my Practice Prompt either. The middle of May I went and got
my mother to come for a visit and that threw me all off. Oh geez!! Who am I
kidding?! I wasn’t even on track for the monthly prompt or the practice prompt before
I went to get my mother. At this point I know I’m just using whatever I can
find as an excuse for my not digging in and getting this done.
June is about reflection on the last 6 months of living with my word and
about where
I'm at with my word for this year. There is are a series of questions that I answer
to assess my challenges and my successes in order to make a path forward for
the second half of the year. I’ve not started answering these questions but I
do have them printed out and ready to go. I also have my Practice Daily
Tracking Cards printed although I’ve not gotten anything on them yet. It’s
almost half way through the month so I need to get myself in gear and do this.

18" Doll Couch
I've been working on this for awhile. Making the couch was easy but it took time to paint. Plus I had to get the needed materials for the cushions and pillows. I do think it turned out really great. I made this for Grayson and June for their American Girl Dolls. The next project will be the chair to go with the couch.
Getting caught up . . . .
I had made a promise to myself that I would keep up to date on my posts but I fell of the wagon quick with that. Oh well, new habits are hard to acquire unless they are bad habits. Those I seem to pick up quick. Lol. I've been busy since my last post. Well I feel like I've been busy as time has just flown by on me. So here's a quick update . . .
After having nice warm weather in the middle of January, Mother Nature dumped 2 feet of snow on us in one storm on January 22nd.
During the storm it seems that everyone is taking their turn laying by the woodstove.
The snow finally stopped on Sunday so Rosie and I went out to play.
We finally got plowed out Sunday afternoon.
Snow started melting on Monday.
The temperature rose up into the 50s and then we got a couple of days of rain. Getting home became a challenge.
The February prompt for Ali Edward One Little Word class is Practice. So I picked two things I want to develop into a daily habit - Daily Chores and Daily Creativity.

Working on the daily practice has done me good. With the help of my new miter sawI was able to finish one of my UFOs - the bench for my bedroom.
There's a whole lot more that I've been doing but I just wanted to do the highlights.
